What is a Green-lipped mussel?

Green Lipped Mussels is a famous dietary supplement extracted from mussels native to New Zealand (also known as New Zealand green shell mussels, New Zealand Shellfish or Perna canaliculus).
It differs from other mussel types due to its dark brown to green shell with a large green and gold colored mollusk, and also the green lip it has around the edge of its shell.
